James Guttridge, Composer

 

With a degree in commercial music and private studies in London and New York, James went to work as a keyboardist on ABC's 'The New Love Boat' with Gavin Mcleod. The cruise-gig career was shortlived however, ending with the sinking of a state-of-art cruise ship. James returned to land duties, founding a musical scoring group called 'Ferocious Fish'. Under this banner James produced several scores for the legendary Canadian FIlm Composer, Michael Conway Baker ('The Grey Fox', 'Nails', 'Legend of Kootenai Brown') In 1995 James first feature film,'Once in a Blue Moon' earned a Leo award for best musical score.

 

James went on to score numerous films, television series and new media projects garnering several international awards and nominations including multiple Leo Awards, two Grammy nominations and a Gemini for his work on the Hallmark miniseries, 'Voyage of the Unicorn', starring Beau Bridges. In 2000 his collaboration on the #1 Fox series, 'X-Files' garnered an audience of more than 50 million viewers. Following was a collaboration for Quincy Jones' record label with gospel legend Andrae Crouch (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Lion King, Color Purple) which earned a Grammy nomination for best gospel performance. At the same time James also began scoring for the Francis Ford Copolla produced sci-fi series 'First Wave'.

 

James also began composing and creating sound design for several games, CDs and Interactive exhibits including music for the groundbreaking simultaor experiences 'Tour of the Universe' (Tokyo) 'Ultimate Rolleroaster' (Paris) and 'Time Machine Theater' (Ottawa) James also scored the 'Space Center' exhibit for the Vancouver Planetarium. In 1999 James earned an ITV (International Television Award) for his work on 'Dinosaur' a television special accompanying the world's largest travelling exhibit.

 

Recently James scored 'Kung-Fu Killer' a two part mini which reunited Daryl Hannah and David Carradine from Tarantino's,'Kill Bill'. Daryl Hannah plays a 30's Shanghai songstress for which James wrote, arranged and produced several vocal tracks featuring Ms. Hannah's vocals. This earned James his fourth Leo nomination. Most recently James has been heard on the SyFy Channel with scores for the Fantasy epic 'Kinghts of Bloodsteel' featuring Christopher Loyd, 'Meteor Storm', and 'Riverworld' a new series based on the best-selling books by Philip José Farmer and starring Tahmoh Penikett from Battlestar Galactica.
